3-5 July 2009, Pune, India.
The Alumni Association of Sancheti
Institute(AASI), Poona Orthopedic Society and Sushrut Learning
Centre(SLC) jointly organized the now annual 6th Fracture Fixation
Course at Sushrut Learning Centre, Pune from the 3-5 July 2009. The
course chairman was Prof. U. Holz from Germany, a renowned face world
wide in the field of Orthopedics. The course had two components, the
Basic Course on 3-4 July and the Advanced Course on 5 July 2009. Both
courses were well attended with over 130 registered delegates from all
over the country and overseas.
THE BASIC
FRACTURE FIXATION COURSE:
3 – 4 July 09
The Basic Course included lectures and hands-on workshops on modalities
of management of various fractures and included fixation techniques for
Proximal Femur Fractures (DHS), Locked Intramedullary Nailing (long
bones), Interfragmentary Compression Techniques and Compression Plating,
Proximal Tibial Fractures (Buttress Plating), Tension band wiring, and
Management of extremity Injuries using the Universal Mini External
Fixator (UMEX). The seminars and workshops were conducted by eminent
faculty from all over the country including Prof. Holz, Dr. Chetan
Pradhan, Dr. A. Babhulkar, Dr. Sudhir Warrier, Dr. Sandeep Pathwardhan,
Dr. G. S. Kulkarni, and Dr. Rajeev Arora amongst many other
distinguished faculty members.
THE ADVANCE
FRACTURE FIXATION COURSE:
5 July 09
The Advanced Course consisted of lectures and hands-on workshops on
pelvic and acetabular reconstructions, management of thoraco-lumbar
fractures, anterior cervical plating and management of pathological
fractures in the spine. Faculty for the Advanced Course included
Dr. Atul Patil, Dr. Ram Chaddha, Dr. Parag Sancheti, Prof. U. Holz, Dr,
Ketan Khurjekar and Dr. Pai-Raiturkar amongst others.
Prof. Holz and Dr. K. Sancheti graced the fracture course with their
presence on all the days sharing their vast international experience and
skills with all the delegates thus making a significant contribution to
the overall success of the course.
The course will also be remembered for the felicitation of one of the
country’s renowned stalwarts in the field of orthopedic surgery, Dr. G.
S. Kulkarni from Miraj, Maharashtra. Dr. Kulkarni was honoured by the
Alumni Association of Sancheti Institute (AASI) with a prestigious
Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the orthopedic
fraternity not only in his home state, Maharashtra, but all over the
country and internationally as well. The Honour was conferred upon him
by his old friend and colleague, Dr. M.N Shahane, himself a highly
respected orthopedic surgeon from Mumbai.
